NBSC Presents Research on “The Factors Influencing the Incidence of Teenage Pregnancy in Northern Mindanao” at the RDC-X Social Development Committee’s 3rd Quarter 2023 Meeting
On September 19, 2023, Dr. Mary Koren Witting-Acuesa, one of NBSC’s research project leader, presented the findings from the first phase of the study on the Factors Influencing the Incidence of Teenage Pregnancy in Northern Mindanao at the RDC-X Social Development Committee’s 3rd Quarter 2023 Meeting held at Pearlmont Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City. The presentation aimed to shed light on the concerning rates of adolescent pregnancy in the region. Furthermore, it sought endorsement and support for the upcoming second phase of the study in Camiguin, Oroquieta, Tubod, Jasaan, and Villanueva. In response, the committee called for comprehensive region-wide strategies to combat the rising cases of youth pregnancies, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among parents, government, and schools to address this social concern.
Mayor Erick G. Cañosa of Gingoog City, who chairs SDC-X, presided over the meeting hosted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-X. Also present were Co-Chairperson Jaime Rafael U. Paguio, RDC-X Vice-Chairperson, Dir. Mylah Faye Aurora Cariño of NEDA X, and Assistant Regional Director Federico P. Martin of DepEd X. Discussions covered various topics, including the Northern Mindanao Regional Development Policy Research Agenda 2023-2028, Universal Accessibility Act of 2023, Internally Displaced Persons Protection Bill, National Mental Health Week celebration, School-Based Information Campaign Against Illegal Recruitment targeting Communist Terrorist Groups, and Guidelines for Standardized Admission Exams and Subsidies for Tertiary Education Institutions.
Dignitaries from NEDA, DILG, the Philippine Army, DSWD, DOLE, POPCOM, DepEd, CHED, NHA, and other State Universities and Colleges in the region also attended the meeting.
